Una mala noticia para el mundo de la fotografía. El fotógrafo Arnold Newman ha muerto con 88 años de un ataque al corazón en Nueva York.

Some bad news in the world of photography. The photographer Arnold Newman has died from a heart attack at age 88 in New York.

A bien seguro que seguirá sacando retratos medioambientales allí Arriba.

Me llamó la atención las curvas que dibujaba el edificio en el horizonte.

Siempre se han utilizado como recurso fotográfico los reflejos sobre las cristaleras de los comercios.

Esta fotografía fue obtenida en la madrileña Calle Alcalá una tarde de mayo.

Reflections in shop windows have been used many times as a photographic device.

This photograph was obtained in Calle Alcalá, Madrid one afternoon in May.

En la Carrera San Jerónimo frente al Congreso de los Diputados se encuentra uno de los más glamourosos hoteles de Madrid.

One of the most glamorous hotels in Madrid can be found in Carrera San Jerónimo opposite the Parliament Building.

Para aportarle mayor dramatismo a la imagen, le añadí nubes al cielo raso de aquella tarde y le apliqué un filtro de procesado cruzado durante el postprocesado.

During post processing in order to give more drama to the image I added clouds to that day’s clear sky and applied a cross-processing filter

Curvas de Hormigón

Al ver la estructura de esta vieja estación de autobuses me llamó la atención las líneas dominantes que defínían sus vigas curvas.

Las líneas curvas proporcionan dinamismo a la composición, puesto que el espectador recorre la línea de manera natural, generando una sensación de paz y tranquilidad.

Por otro lado, las sombras y la textura de las vigas aportan interés a estas fotografías en blanco y negro.

When I saw the structure of this old bus station the dominant lines that define the curved beams attracted my attention.

Curved lines give dynamicism to the composition, as the viewer scans the line in a natural way, generating a sense of peace and tranquillity.

On the other hand the shades and textures of the beams provide interest to black and white photographs.

Sobreexponer y Subexponer

Algunas veces nos podemos encontrar con la necesidad de sobreexponer (aclarar) o subexponer (oscurecer) parte de una imagen.

Con las herramientas Sobreexponer y Subexponer de PhotoShop no se obtienen tan buenos resultados como la técnica que vamos a describir:

We may sometimes have the need to overexpose (lighten) or underexpose (darken) part of an image.

With the Overexpose and Underexpose tools of PhotoShop we do not obtain such good results as with the following technique:

1.- Abrir la imagen original con PhotoShop. Vamos a aclarar un poco la puerta principal del Congreso de los Diputados.

1.- Open the original image in PhotoShop. We are going to slightly lighten the main door of the Parliament Building.

2.- Capa/Nueva/Capa…

3.- En el cuadro de diálogo Nueva Capa: Modo Superponer y activamos la casilla de verificación Rellenar de un color neutro para Superponer (50% gris).

4.- Seleccionamos de color frontal NEGRO y como color de fondo el BLANCO, pulsando la tecla D.

5.- Invertimos los colores (Blanco-Frontal y Negro-Fondo) pulsando la tecla X.

6.- Con la herramienta Pincel, Tamaño 10px y Opacidad 5% dibujamos sobre la nueva capa hasta obtener resultado deseado.

2.- Layer / New / Layer…

3.- In the New Layer dialog box: Overlay Mode and activate the checkbox Fill with neutral colour to Overexpose (50% grey).

4.- Select fore Colour BLACK and background colour WHITE, pressing the D key.

5.- Invert the colours (White – Fore and Black – Background) pressing the X key.

6.- With the Brush tool, Size 10px and Opacity 5% we draw over the new layer until the desired result is obtained.

Nota importante:
Para Subexponer usaremos el Pincel con el color frontal NEGRO.
Para Sobreexponer usaremos el Pincel con el color frontal BLANCO.

Important note:

To Underexpose use the Brush with fore colour BLACK.
To Overexpose use the Brush with fore colour WHITE.
Interior Estación Atocha

El invernadero con plantas tropicales de la Estación de Atocha es otro de los bellos rincones que regala Madrid a sus visitantes.

Como la luz en el interior es muy tenue y no disponía de trípode lo compensé con una gran abertura de diafragma y una mayor sensibilidad.

The greenhouse of tropical plants at Atocha Train Station is another of the beautiful corners of Madrid to delight its visitors.

As the interior light was very faint and I didn’t have a tripod to hand I compensated using a wide aperture diaphragm and a higher sensibility.

Versión en blanco y negro.

Black and white version.

Durante el postprocesado le apliqué un virado a sepia.

During post processing I applied a sepia tone.
